"We have demonstrated previously the presence of a 120-kDa isoform of myosin Ic in the nucleus and showed that this protein is involved in DNA transcription. Myosin 1 is a molecular motor protein that needs actin filaments for its function. We now wish toinvestigate functions of nuclear actin in more detail. There are two main goals in this project: 1) characterization of the dynamics and structural properties of nuclear actin and 2) investigation of actin function in DNA transcription. Intranuclearlocalization and association of various actin-binding proteins to actin will be investigated as part of the first aim.
