"An important goal for the biomedical research community is the identification of disease-specific biomarkers. The hope is that these novel markers will be useful in the clinic by enabling early diagnosis of patients, improving prognosis, or serving as new therapeutic targets. In our study we intend to analyze in detail metallothionein as a new potential biomarker of tumor diseases specially in prostate carcinoma. This protein is a low-molecular intracellular molecule which can play an important role in heavy metal homeostasis in living organisms. Less is known about molecular mechanisms of MT expression. Overexpression of metallothioneins is studied as a new prognostic marker in a number of malignant and high grading tumors. Our efforts will be thus focused mainly on detection of \u00A0MT genes (MT-1A, MT-2A), products of transcription and translation using standart electrophoretic, PCR and new biophysical methods."@en .
