The first are related to meteorites, the second group comprises carbon-rich metasedimentary rocks. Based on knowledge about synthesis and stability of fullerenes in laboratoryconditions, it is clear that presence of fullerenes in a rock is conditioned by specific geological processes the rock passed through. We can approximately determine these conditions according to few existing hypotheses about the origin and preservation of fullerenes in geological materials. But a complex, well-founded theory is still missing. This theory should describe all three basic steps of such process: the formation of fullerenes, their persistence in an intermediate stage before entrapment and enclosure into the rock and their conservation to present date.
