"The problem of increasing infertility, due to pathological changes on sperm, has become a serious health, ethical and social issue of the human population. The influence of selected eco-toxicological factors on the quality of mammalian spermatozoa will be studied in this proposed project, with special focus on changes in organization of cytoskeletal microtubules in the sperm head and tail. As a result of rising concentrations of aluminium, beryllium, and fluorides in the environment and food chain, there is a growing importance of assessing their impact on the decrease of fertility. Microtubules are the best-known part of the cytoskeleton and the major building components are alpha-tubulin and beta-tubulin heterodimers. Dynamics of polymerization and depolymerization of microtubule fibres is GTP binding dependent. It was proved that fluorides in presence of aluminium or beryllium ions form metal-fluoride complexes, which are analogues of phosphate groups, and can imitate the role of GTP. The"@en .
