"The proposed project aims to build up a general algorithm for evaluation of linear elastic coefficients of twinned crystals of low-temperature phases of shape memory alloys (i.e. of so-called martensitic microstructures). Based on this algorithm, elasticproperties of microstructures observed in alloys examined at IT ASCR will be determined, and, consequently, the stress-strain conditions at compatible and weakly compatible austenite-to-martensite interfaces appearing during the transitions. With the obtained elastic coefficients having the sense of local quadratic expansions of the Helmholtz free energy density in minima corresponding to the twinned structures, the thermodynamic description of shape memory alloys can be completed. The algorithm for evaluation of elastic properties of microstructured materials will be verified experimentally by means of ultrasonic methods, particularly by the resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (method systematically developed at IT ASCR.)
