"The complex cobaltites are of a fundamental importance as candidates for the thermoelectric applications. Their transport and thermal properties (low electrical resistivity, high positive thermoelectric power and low thermal conductivity) together with chemical resistance against corrosion predestine their use at high temperatures. Novel layered\u00A0cobaltites will be prepared and their thermoelectric performance at high temperatures tested. Since the charge carriers in cobalt oxides are strongly coupled to lattice dynamics and reflect the magnetic, elastic and electrostatic interactions, a physical and structural-chemical investigation up to 1200 K will be undertaken.
