"Recent developments in the field of cementitious composites, reinforced with short fibers (engineered cementitious composites, ferrocement) or continuous reinforcement (traditional steel-reinforced concrete, textile reinforced concrete) and especially the combination of both, have led to remarkable improvements of the load-carrying behavior in terms of increased strength and ductility. In spite of promising results achieved by combining randomly distributed short fibers and aligned continuous reinforcement the targeted design of high-performance composite structures for general loading conditions is still not possible. The goal is to provide a multi-scale modeling framework in order to streamline this development. The key idea is an innovative bridging between micro and macro scale by applying the crack-centered homogenization technique transforming the statistical representation of the material structure into smeared, directionally dependent damage functions that describe the inelastic behavior within a representative volume element. The obtained specification of the damage evolution can then be conveniently applied within the anisotropic damage model including initial anisotropy. The micromechanically and statistically supported damage model will be used for finite-element simulations of thin-walled surface and shell structures.
