"The main objective of this bilateral project is the development and exploitation of state-of-the art techniques for the generation of ultrashort coherent X-ray pulses and its utilization in diverse application experiments in atomic, molecular and solid state physics. On the Czech side, the very first goal will be to construct and optimize a compact X-ray beamline based on high-order harmonic generation in noble gases operating at repetition rate of up to 1 kHz. It will be followed by interdisciplinary application experiments such as x-ray interferometry, surface holography, material ablation induced by a focused x-ray beam, nanostructuring, and metrology of x-ray optics. The Korean team will explore new approaches for the generation of attosecond x-ray pulses and high-order harmonic generation from aligned molecules.
