The role of IPE in this project is mainly analysis of propagation of optical radiation in tapered fibres coated with suitable layers, especially metallic ones, determination of transmission properties of such structures and their sensitivity to changes of optical parameters in their vicincity. At IPE, laboratory samples of selected taper structures will be also fabricated and their transmission properties important for sensing applications will be measured. The design of fibre taper structures suitable for particular technical applications will be proposed in close cooperation with the German partner that will specify the applications.
