The modern evaluation of their diversity is based on molecular methods combined with identification of autapomorphic phenotype markers, connected with their phylogenetic position. The applicant is author of European identification key (Elsevier Heidelberg). He is also the main author of the world internet database (www.cyanodb.cz), which is proposed as Approved list of cyanobacterial genera for bacteriological nomenclature. The family Scytonemataceae contains ecologically important species, but up to now less than 5% of species were studied by modern molecular methods. The main goal of this grant is to establish and explain the phylogenetic relations in genera and species within the family, particularly important for extreme ecosystems. These genera and species are also important for the understanding of cyanobacterial diversity, ecology and phylogeny. The result of this grant is publication of the review of revised scytonematacean genera and selected species and completing of the world database."@en .
