This unique discovery opened up a view on two-fold selection of mating partners. However, this discovery is limitted to a low number of model and free living mammalian and avian species. Therefore, we aim at detailed description and localization of GPCR receptors in mammals and birds that are characteristic of differences in social biology and ecological strategies (including e.g. terrestrial versus fossorial strategy in mammals, social versus eusocial, monogamous versus promiscuous etc.). This project is unique for it enables application of modern sequencing technologies and methods of the study of gene expression of transcriptome in free living mammals and birds to further the understanding mechanisms of mate selection and sexual selection in general."@en .
