"Aposematic animals advertise their noxiousness to potential predators to discourage them from attack.However, different predators may behave differently towards the same prey owing to their specific morphology, physiology, behaviour, and psychology. In spite of many experimental studies focused on the function of warning signals, comparative approach is still lacking, and most experiments deal with a single predator species. In this project we aim to identify the factors responsible for the variation in reactions of predators towards the aposematic prey. We shall use two basic approaches: (1) comparing reactions of predators from different taxa (birds, small mammals, lizards and geckos, toads, spiders, mantids, and true bugs) towards the same aposematic prey, and identifying the sources of individual variation in conspecific predators, (2) testing the effect of different components of warning signals (colour, shape, pattern, sound, smell) on the behaviour (unlearned avoidance, avoidance learning, memory, discrimination and generalization) of several model predator species."@en . . . . .
