"This project aims at elucidating the role of plants in the greenhouse gas budget for a sedge-dominated fen as a model type of wetland with a fairly stable water level near the soil surface. The general hypothesis is that an undisturbed fen in the limosal ecophase acts as a sink for greenhouse gases (CH4 and CO2). The research will combine three types of studies: (1) field monitoring of gas exchange and organic matter partitioning in a model wetland, (2) a field experiment focused on the effect of plant presence on greenhouse gas emissions, and (3) a mesocosm experiment testing the effect of plant presence in interaction with selected seasonal regimes of water level. Studies 1 and 2 will take place on the Wet Meadows near T\u0159ebo\u0148, Czech Republic. In all three studies, the gas exchange measurements will be complemented with studies of the plant structure, especially the horizontal and vertical distribution of different plant parts and their internal ventilating pathways."@en . .
