"The objectives of this project consist in investigation of antimycobacterial and antimicrobial agents and plant elicitors, the structure of which is based on plant phytosterols, animal bile acids or on a combination of these molecules, further combined with extra introduced functionalities, which have been found important for these types of biological activity in the nature. The target compounds bear phytosterol and/or bile acid skeleton modified by additional functionalities, especially by a double bond system, 1,2-dioxolane skeleton, N-oxide functionality or a disulfide system, and are inspired by natural products discovered through the pervasiveness of beneficial associations between symbiotic microbes and plants and animals in every ecosystem. The objective of the project is to design and to synthesize synthons for modification of the molecules of bile acids and/or phytosterols to get structures capable of mimicking the structures of systems displaying antimycobacterial activity and the effect mimicking those of elicitors on plants in the nature."@en . .
