Compounds that have been determined to be estrogenic include pharmaceuticals and active ingredients in personal care, natural estrogens and phytoestrogens, synthetic hormones, plasticized agents, surfactants, and etc. Despite the rapid progress that has been made in the development of highly sensitive and selective analytical instrumentation, some form of sample pretreatment is always required. Therefore, there has been an increasing level of interest in the development of highly selective and specific sorbents based upon molecular recognition using molecularly imprinted polymers involving the formation of a specific molecular imprint formed by a template molecule. A long-standing challenge for MIP-based adsorbents is to avoid or reduce the presence of heterogeneous binding sites with a range of affinity to prepare well-defined sorbents."@en .
