Antibodies against proteins involved in the synaptonemal complex formation, recombination, and others are used. Karyotypic relations among the Bovidae species, together with some significant differences, give us the opportunity for comparative meiotic studies. In this project, the frequency and distribution of recombination events during male meiosis in species of interest will be determined. Interspecific comparisons will be performed, especially concerning chromosomes,which are fused in some species. Attention will be paid to the sex-chromosomes. Sex-autosomal translocations are usually deleterious for the fertility of their carriers, but they are a part of a normal karyotype in certain species. The mechanisms of synapsis, inactivation and segregation of the sex-chromosomes will be studied in Bovidae species with sex-autosomal translocations.
