"Mechanisms of epigenetic regulation play crucial role in processes of the cell differentiation in eukaryotic organisms. Because epigenetic code \u2013 in contrast to the genetic code \u2013 is not universal throughout kingdoms, correlation of studies using different model systems is of key importance. An evident advantage of plant models lies in their high resistance to the complex genomic instability and stress conditions. We propose to study the role of epigenetic mechanisms in regulation of telomeres and telomerases \u2013 critical factors in cell proliferation and senescence. The investigations will be focused on (1) stability of telomeric repeats in Arabidopsis thaliana mutant lines impaired in function of genes involved in heterochromatin formation, (2) epigenetic regulation of the catalytic telomerase subunit promoter during plant development, (3) role of telomerase during plant cell adaptation to the stress conditions. This study will represent the first comprehensive report in this field, showing the general epigenetic control of crucial processes in plant cell."@en . .
