"The exocyst, \u00A0a multimeric exocytotic vesicle\u00A0 tethering complex, was extensively studied in yeast and mammals in relation to cell polarity. Recently we confirmed the existence of the whole exocyst complex in plants. Arabidopsis exocyst mutants exhibit defective cell polarity and growth. Cell polarization is a crucial factor for the efficient plant defense on the site of the pathogen attack as cell wall reinforcements (papilla) are deposited through the localized action of the secretory pathway. Our preliminary data show that the formation of the papilla upon a challenge by a pathogen depends on the exocyst function. We propose to explore possible functions of exocyst in plant defense studying Arabidopsis exocyst mutants, especially of the Exo70 family upon pathogen attack (using e.g. Blumeria graminis). The local cell and tissues reactions and localization of different exocyst subunits-GFP constructs will be monitored during the interaction with pathogen. We expect that this project will substantially contribute to the understanding of the role of the secretory pathway in plant resistance to pathogens."@en . . . . "GAP501/10/2081" . . .
