"Genes controlling flowering time in wheat (Vrn, Ppd, Eps) are of essential importance for optimizing adaptation and hence yield. A new flowering time gene QFt.cri-3B.1 was genetically mapped on the long arm of wheat chromosome 3B near the SSR marker Xbarc164 on Crop Research Institute. The present project proposal, targeted at more detailed analysis of this gene, includes fine mapping of the gene both genetically and physically and the identification of possible candidate genes, as a preliminary to cloning the gene and the study its function, as well as a more detailed phenotyping to study effects of the gene on wheat growth and development. Chromosome deletion lines will be used for chromosome 3B bin mapping; F2 populations developed from near-isogenic lines will be analysed for fine mapping; comparative mapping of the wheat genomic region containing the gene will be done with Brachypodium and rice. A local contig will be developed for the region of interest in cv. Chinese Spring using available physical map of chromosome 3B \u00A0and specific BAC resources.
