"The subject of the project is a study of physiological processes that are triggered in insect body by stress hormones from adipokinetic hormone (AKH) family, as a proximate response to stress situations. The aim of the project is to suggest suitable processes, and to propose methods of their possible control as a potential usage in pest control. The project includes: (1) Study of stress reactions elicited by insecticide treatment of insect body and their relation to the AKH functions to reveal if there is any specialization of particular AKH in species possessing more than one AKH. (2) Study of AKH role in mobilization of anti-oxidative stress reactions in suitable Drosophila mutants (mainly AKH-deficient one) to prove a specific/non-specific role of AKH in these processes, and possible interactions with other insect hormones and factors.
