"2014-12-31+01:00"^^ . "Plant sex chromosomes are rarely heteromorphic and they seem to be evolutionary younger compared to most animal species. So when studying the structure and evolution of plant sex chromosomes we can analyse the first steps in evolution of human sex chromosomes. We have already characterised the sex chromosomes of Silene latifolia and well documented that the Y accumulates many types of repetitive sequences. There are two Y chromosomes in males of Rumex acetosa and appear to be heterochromatic and probably of an older evolutionary age. In this project we want to globally characterise the sorrel genome using the 454-sequencing strategy, and using BAC library and laser microdissection we will isolate some X-linked genes and look for their Y-alleles. The aim of this work is to functionally analyse\u00A0 X- and Y-linked genes in both experimental plant models (campion and sorrel) in order to demonstrate (a) a different extent of degeneration of the Y chromosome(s), (b) to compare gene expression in different sexes, and (c) to indicate a hypothetical dosage compensation system."@en .
