The discovery of aquaporins has provided a molecular basis for\u00A0understanding water transport in the brain. A member of the aquaporin family, aquaporin-4 (AQP4),\u00A0which is considered to be the most important water channel in the brain, facilitates water transport\u00A0across the plasma membrane. In the proposed project, we will study how AQP4 deficiency or the\u00A0downregulation of AQP4 affects the diffusion parameters of the extracellular space (ECS) during\u00A0cytotoxic and extracellular edema formation.
