Recent published results suggest a possible, important, role of Plzf in regulation of blood pressure, first via sodium reabsorption in kidney, and second via its function in the heart. In the heart, Plzf may participate in pathogenesis of cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis. The aim of our project is to test these hypotheses in vivo, using unique animal models: SHR (spontaneously hypertensive rat, a model of hypertension and metabolic syndrome) and PD3+PD5 - two congenic strains differing from SHR by a small fragment of chromosome 8, containing a distinct Plzf allele. Analysis of the congenic strains will be complemented by establishment of transgenic rats overexpressing Plzf. Our preliminary results suggest that PD3 has significantly lower blood pressure than SHR. Moreover, PD3 and PD5 differ from SHR in important metabolic parameters. Thus, we aim, by deep characterization of this experimental model, to elucidate the Plzf role in etiopatogenesis of hypertension and metabolic syndrome."@en . "2010-01-01+01:00"^^ . .
