"The project is focused to create the model of induced seismicity as a result od fluid injection into the rock formation. We aim to better understand the relation of microearthquakes to the hydraulic fracture geometry, the role of the mobilization of preexisting fractures and the occurrence of tensile components in source mechanisms. The existing research was limited by the unsufficient azimuth coverage of available data, which prevented determining the full source moment tensor. We succeeded to obtain high quality seismic data recorded by a dense network of surface sensors during hydraulic stimulation of a natural gas reservoir in Northern America. We will focus to improve determining the locations and source mechanisms of induced events. In parallel, we will study the stress field surrounding the hydraulic fracture. The results will enable create a qualitatively improved model relating the induced seismicity, fluid pressure, geometry of preexisting fractures and stress field.
