D\u00EDky vysok\u00FDm obsah\u016Fm HFO p\u0159edstavuj\u00ED pr\u00E1v\u011B p\u016Fdy a dnov\u00E9 sedimenty nejrozs\u00E1hlej\u0161\u00ED akumul\u00E1tory arsenu v \u017Eivotn\u00EDm prost\u0159ed\u00ED. "Arsenic in soils originates either from the former acid deposition as an anthropogenic product (coal combustion, metallurgy, smelter and tannery industry, fertlizers, arsenic-based insecticides and pesticides), or from the weathering of sulfide minerals (pyrite, arsenopyrite) in the bedrock. In soil profiles arsenic in oxyanionic form (arsenates, arsenites) is selectively adsorbed on hydrated ferric oxides (HFO) and similar Al/Mn phases, forming stable surface complexes. Owing to a high content of mentioned HFO phases, soils and bottom sediments represent the most wide-spread accumulators of arsenic in the environment. A significant increase of arsenic in surface water (even four times during the last ten years), which has been noted in several Central European regions, has not corresponded with the global decline of atmospheric pollutions in all European countries. A higher As concentration in surface water relates with the increasing pH of infiltrated atmospheric deposition and/or with the decreasing stability of surface Fe-As binders connecting to the distribution of surface charge and presence of competitive ions to adsorption sites. The aim of proposal project is to explain and quantify the mobilization of arsenic in aerated unsaturated zone in dependence on the chemical properties of percolating water and the surface properties of solid phase in soil profiles."@en .
