"The major subject of this fundamentally directed research project is to study the properties of neutrons produced by D(d,n)3He reactions in plasmas. Because neutrons are influenced neither by magnetic nor by electric fields, neutron detection is a favourable diagnostic tool of the most energetic processes taking place in plasma produced by Z-pinches, plasma foci, lasers, etc. The emphasis will be put on finding information about (i) the neutron yield, (ii) the energy distribution of fusion neutrons, (iii) the anisotropy of neutron emission, (iv) the spatial region of neutron generation, and about (v) the time and duration of neutron production with respect to general plasma dynamics.
