"The project deals with the synthesis of chiral organic bis- or poly(trialkoxysilyl) derivatives that will be subsequently subjected to the sol-gel hydrolysis and condensation to form novel polysilsesquioxane-based chiral hybrid organic-inorganic materials. Derivatives of tartaric acid, axially chiral binaphthalenes, and large chiral macrocycles containing the trans-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine unit in their structures will serve as the central chiral moieties. The effect of both the chiral monomeric unit structure and the sol-gel process conditions on the hybrid material structuring and morphology will be studied.
