"A main goal of this project is to synthesize organic push-pull systems with an intramolecular chargetransfer and to study their nonliear optical (NLO) properties. Several (hetero)aromatic systems as fundamental motives applicable in the synthesis of organic dipolar chromophores have been proposed in this respect. The modular synthesis of the proposed compounds uses, in particular, the preparation of a suitable precursors of the given class of chromophore and their modification via cross-coupling reactions. Whereas the synthesis and basic properties of the successfully synthesized chromophores will be carried out in the applicant's laboratory, the study of NLO properties will be pursued within the scope of an international cooperation.
