"The phase structure of immiscible polymerblends is formed during their melt mixing and processing. The size distributionof dispersed droplets in flowing blends is controlled by the competitionbetween their breakup and coalescence. The process analysis and description arenecessary for efficient control of the structure and properties of polymerblends. The aim of the project is a study of the breakup and coalescence in theshear and elongation flow using a combination of theoretical analysis,mathematical modeling and in-situ experiments. The structure changes intwo-phase blends will be observed by optical microscopy and light scatteringduring the flow in a rotational rheometer. Obtained dependences of the courseof the droplet breakup and coalescence on system parameters will be utilizedfor derivation of the equations describing the droplet size distributions invarious flow fields."@en .
