"Within the framework of this project a material model of fatigue of concrete with the effect of harsh environment was developed. The model which was defined by fuzzy logic combines the effect of cyclic loading, chloride contamination and freeze-thawing. "Reinforced and pre-stressed concrete bridges are subjected not only to fatigue load, but also to the impact of corrosive environment. The combination of these effects may influence durability of such structures significantly. This is the reason why material models used in realistic finite element analyses should reflect both of these effects. While the fatigue behavior of steel has already been studied and is well known, the fatigue of concrete and the influence of fatigue on the bond between steel and concrete still need more attention. The objective of this project is to develop a robust material model of concrete and interfacial bond which can be used in fatigue finite element analyses. The model will be based on fuzzy logic so that the knowledge of material engineers, besides the experimental data, could be also included. Also, an image-processing-based system for investigation and monitoring of damage initiation and propagation will be developed.
