"Aim of present project is kinetic and mechanism study of mineral carbonation process for long-term CO2 storage. This CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) technology is similar to natural weathering of silicate rocks, where carbonation takes place. Process may be accelerated via various kind of activation (chemical, thermal and mechanical). Capture of carbon dioxide by activated silicates with calcium and magnesium content offers an interesting option for CCS technologies. Further industrial by-products, such as iron and steel slags, are containing high amount of bonded calcium and magnesium oxides. Therefore is mineral carbonation suitable option for utilization of these raw materials. Searching for proper method of activation is necessary for practical utilization of slags in CCS. Application of silicates and secondary raw materials for reduction of anthropogenic CO2 concentration in atmosphere will be accompanied by searching of exploitation of obtained carbonates and silicate-aluminate gels for example such as adsorbents, civil engineering and fillers."@en .
