The first aim is to predict the functional reliability and durability of commonly-used polymeric damp-proof membranes intended to protect building substructures against underground water and radon. The insulation samples will be exposed to unique degradation conditionscomposed of soil bacteria and alpha particles. The same degradation agentsoccur in the normal operational conditions of waterproofing. The effect of bothdegradation agents alone and their synergic effect on degradation ofwaterproofing will be analyzed theoretically and experimentally, and themechanisms of degradation and changes in material properties will be described.The second aim of the project is to assess the temperature dependence of theradon diffusion coefficient for commonly-used types of waterproofing.
