"The aim of the project is the basic research into the mechanism of collapse and fission (disintegration) of individual cavitation bubbles near a solid boundary in Newtonian liquids. The collapse of a single ultrasonically excited vapor bubble will be studied using high-speed cinematography (up to 3.2 mil. fps) for different sizes, contents and distances of the bubble from the solid boundary. The impact loads on the solid surface will be measured using a PVDF film and the coupling between the collapse pattern and the pressure forces exerted on the solid boundary will be studied. In addition, the collapse and fission mechanisms will be studied theoretically and numerically and a model of cavitation erosion potential will be developed from the collected experimental evidence."@en .
