"The resolution of acute bovine mammary gland inflammation and the subsequent reparation of the damaged tissue can begin only after neutrophils have been eliminated from the inflammation site. The resolution consists in for the major part in apoptosis ofneutrophils and their subsequent phagocytosis by mononuclear phagocytes (MoP). The role of MoP in this process has not yet been studied. The objective of the project is to describe the role of mononuclear phagocytes in the resolution of acute bovinemammary gland inflammation. Specifically a) the effect of bacterial toxins on the rate of phagocytosis of apoptotic neutrophils by MoP during the resolution of acute bovine mammary gland inflammation; b) the effect of maturation and ageing of MoP ontheir potential to eliminate apoptotic neutrophils from the cavity system of the bovine mammary gland; c) effect of phagocytosis of bacteria on the potential of MoP to identify and phagocytise apoptotic neutrophils during the resolution of acute mammary"@en .
