A current model of ST signalling involve the activation of protein kinase C via activation of phospholipase C(PLC) through a tyrosine kinase (JAK2). Our preliminary results has shown that ST can also activate PLC through a G9/G11 protein mechanism in goat adipocytes. However, this finding cannot be yet conclusively interpreted so that ST signal is transmitted via these proteins because ST may modulate signaling by other agents which transmit signal via G9/G11 proteins. In proposed experiments a ST-mediated stimulation of inositol 1,4,5- trisphosphate (IP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG) will be studied to show thatthe higher levels of G9/G11 proteins have a functional significance.
