"Gut fungi are strictly anaerobic microorganisms occupying forestomach of ruminants and digestion tract of some herbivores. Anaerobic fungi were classified on the base of morphological characters as class Chytridiomycetes, order Spizellomycetales and family Neocallimasticacea. However anaerobic fungi possess many unique features like are anaerobiosis, multiple flagella, lack of mitochondria, hydrogen-generating hydrogenosomes and extremely low genomic G+C content, which do not correspond with characters of Chytridiomycetes. Inside the family Neocallimasticacea 5 genera, two polycentric Orpinomyces and Anaeromyces and three monocentric Piromyces, Ceacomyces, Neocallimastix have been classified also according to morphological traits. However molecular approach based on rDNA sequences does not reflect morphological differences used for traditional classification.
