The reliable and simple method for detection of zygotic activation of selected genes will be developed on the basis of sequence differences between two closely relative mouse species (Mus musculus and Mus spretus), which can be crossed and give progeny.The main objective of the study is to detect presence or absence of zygotic activation of cyclin A 1 gene (using the above mentioned method), and to analyze temporal and stage specific pattern of cyclin A 1 expression by semiquantitative RT-PCR. The results of these studies should clarify the potentially very important role of cyclin A 1 (which is specific for germ cells and preimplantation embryos) during early embryonic development not only in the mouse, but most likely in all mammals.
