We have a very limited understanding of the regulatory mechanisms that have evolved to specify the gametophytic developmental programme and ensure its flawless progress at the level of cell differentiation. Different expression profiles of genes encoding male gametophytic transcription factors suggest the existence of specific mechanisms of regulation of late pollen gene expression. Objectives of this project are to characterise the role of bZIP family transcription factors in pollen maturation, specifically 1) to determine functional properties of pollen-expressed bZIP genes, 2) to demonstrate the importance and codepence of bZIP complexes in late pollen development, 3) to construct an interaction map of male gametophytic bZIP-family transcription factors and 4) to identify bZIP target genes and biological pathway(s) regulated by bZIP transcription factor complexes."@en .
