"The problem of the regulation of economically and hygienically important insect populations is still opened. The project is directed on the study of two different types of male accessory glands (AG) development and their influence on the reproduction of Culex pipiens and Spodoptera littoralis. In some mosquito species AG secretion affects the haematophagous behaviour, in Spodoptera a spermatophore is formed during copulation (mosquitoes lack it). This difference is the reason for choosing these insects.Haematophagous and sexual behaviour of females, vitellogenesis, sizes of egg-layings and their hatchability and spermatophore formation will be studied in Spodoptera. Proteins of the secretion will also be analysed. The study of regulatory mechanisms of development and secretory activity of AG will extend our knowledge about insect development and reproduction and may contribute to developing new methods in ecologically desirable regulation of insect populations and could contribute to measures for"@en .
