"The aim of the project is to study such physiological and behavioural aspects of adipokinetic hormone (AKH) role in insect energy metabolism that could be potentially used in insect pest control. The project includes: (1) Interaction of the AKH with analogues of insect juvenile hormones (JHa) to prove putative inhibitory effect of JHa on AKH characteristics. (2) Study of mutual interactions of JHa, AKH and pesticides that should lead to intensification of pesticide actions in particular physiological stages. (3) Testing of a hypothesis if AKH could play a direct or indirect role in regulation of insect feeding activity. (4) Study how AKH characteristics are modulated by oxidative stress induced by an herbicide and if the neuroendocrine cells in corpora cardiaca responsible for AKH synthesis are specifically targeted by this process.
