The previous projects supported by the GA of the CR were aimed at intensive study of 1,363 natural collections of Hordeum vulgare ssp spontaneumfor resistance to this disease in the period of 1997-2000. A total of 123 accessions possessing fully efficient resistances have been detected. The originality of most of these sources has been confirmed by further study including a large number ofEuropean and Israeli isolates of powdery mildew. The objective of the proposed project is to study the mode of inheritance and to localize resistance genes in 15 selected original and efficient sources of powdery mildew resistance using molecularmarkers. For this purpose, markers based on polymerase chain reaction, particularly codominant SSR markers will be used. Bulk-segregant analysis will be used to isolate polymorphic DNA markers.
