"2"^^ . "In a previous study of microfungi associated with bark beetle S. intricatus and the decline of oaks, Geosmithia species appeared among the most frequent fungi. Geosmithia is a polyphyletic taxon with two species belonging to Hypocreales and eight to Eurotiales. The main aim of our project is to find a relationship among the cambial occurrence of geosmithias, presence of insects and the decline of oaks and contribute thus to knowledge on ecology. We have isolated over 70 strains from Scolytus/Quercusassociation and the sampling will continue in areas with prevailing oak woods, from different oak species, trees with various degrees of disease and other insects feeding on the wood/bark interface. Morphological study and analysis of rDNA sequences confirmed that our isolates differ from species described so far and belong to Hypocreales.
