"Social class differentiation in education results from differences in students' abilities and achievement, from processes of institutional differentiation, but as well from processes of personal choices made by students and their parents in the progression through the educational system. The principal aim of this proposed project is to describe processes of self-selection of secondary school made by students and their parents and to analyze the effects of family background on the odds of makingtransition to vocational schools, technical schools or gymnasia. For this purpose we will collect longitudinal data using quantitative and qualitative methodology.
