"The aim of this project is to map the 5 loci which we found to determine resistance to Leishmania major in the strain CcS-5 to a very short chromosomal segment. This fine mapping to 1-2 cM will allow us to proceed towards their positional cloning. In parallel experiments, additional controlling loci will be mapped in F2 hybrids between strains CcS-20 and BALB/c and CcS-16 and BALB/c. We will compare the immunological effects of the genes operating in strains CcS-5, CsS-16 and CcS-20. We have found that there is not a single pattern of the immunological parameters in susceptibility to L. major in series CcS/Dem. We will compare regulation of resistance to L. major in series OcB/Dem in order to establish how common are these phenomena. We will studythe influence of saliva of phlebotomine vectors on cell proliferation and immune functions in vitro and in vivo.
