"Spontaneous cortical oscillations over the peri-rolandic area display rhythmical components in the 10 Hz and 14-30 Hz bands. Earlier studies showed that both rhythmical components attenuate during sensory and/or motor activity. Our recent studies showed that parameters of movement are encoded in the time course of event-related EEG desynchronisation ( ERD ) prior to movement and even in the post-movement event-related synchronisation ( ERS ). The present projects aims at further analysis of sensorimotorEEG rhythms during movement and somatosensory stimulation, whereby specific effects to be investigated are the following: i) direction of movement, ii) graded intensity of somatosensory, cutaneous, stimulation, iii) pain-related EEG changes, iv) EEG changes during movement-induced gating of painful and innocuous somatosensory stimuli.
