The supporting conditions originate distal to the point of injury during Wallerian degeneration that results in formation of immature Schwann cells. The cells restore the production of molecules which promote axonal regrowth. The synthesis of axon-promoting molecules by Schwann cells and suitable content of their extracellular matrix are important extrinsic factors influencing the axon regeneration in the peripheral nervous syst\u00E9m.
