"The combined actions of Noggin, a BMP antagonist, and retinoic acid (RA) on the maxillary prominence of a stage 15 chicken embryo cause an accessory upper beak formation on the side of the normal beak. Based on the change in the skeleton and gene expression detected by in situ hybridization, we hypothesized the maxillary prominence had transformed into a frontonasal mass. One of our goals is to determine whether the gene profile of the treated MxP resembled that of the untreated FNM and to find\u00A0key genes responsible for transformation. The function of the key genes will be examined with RCAS system (gain-of-function experiment). Furthermore, we will focus on gene expression dynamics of new candidate genes during craniofacial patterning and fate mapping of cells contributing to intraorbital septum after RA-Noggin treatment. Our experiments will lead to new insights into the molecular controls of normal and abnormal facial patterning as well as identify new targets of BMP and RA signaling."@en . "7"^^ .
