"The project is focused on the investigation of the cytoprotective effect of natural substances against the toxic side effects of anthracycline antibiotics (AA). AA are administered in the chemotherapy of many tumorigenic diseases even though these drugs show cardio-, nefro-, and hepatotoxic activity. Some phenolic acids, flavonoids, and flavonolignans may protect cells against the AA-induced toxicity without decreasing the anti-tumor activity of AAs. The aim of the project is to study the influence of phenolic compounds and selected plant extracts on the undesirable effects caused by AA and to uncover their mechanism of action on the molecular level, in cell culture models, and in in vivo experiments."@en .
