"Novel mitochondrial uncoupling proteins (ubiquitous UCP2 and skeletal muscle-specific UCP3) will be studied to contribute to the elucidation of their physiological functions, i.e. whether they participate in the regulation of body weight (with dysfunctions leading to obesity), participate in fever (UCP2) or adaptive thermogenesis (UCP3). The main objective of this project is to search for the presence or absence of corre-lations between UCPn mRNA amount, UCPn protein amount, and UCPn function under selected hormonal, cytokine, and other stimulations in selected model tissues.
