"The main goal of the project is an analysis of patterns of genomic parameters: genome size, chromosome number, chromosome size, genomic AT/GC composition, retrotransposon diversity and widespread in taxa of two contrasting model genera with holokinetic chromosomes: Carex and Eleocharis. Evolutionary dynamics of these species-specific genomic parameters in the framework of the phylogeny based on molecular sequence markers will be used for the evaluation of the role of key mechanisms\u00A0in genome size evolution: (i) polyploidy; (ii) agmatoploidy, (iii) symploidy, (iv-v) retrotransposon amplification or removal in the main evolutionary lineages of taxa studied. The model is therefore not a concrete species as in classical genomic studies but the group of species connected by the net of their evolutionary relationships. The models are contrasting in (i) species diversity, (ii) evolutionary centres, (iii) ecological diversification, but mainly in (iv) variation ranges of chromosome and genome sizes, which are in Eleocharis ones of the largest known among angiosperms genera."@en .
